[00:00:02] Phineas: Hello, my friend and friends. Welcome to Fawks Talks with Phineas Fawks. I am your host, Phineas Fawks. As I mentioned before, my show has been picked up by the Treequalizer Network, and with that comes some changes. New network, new name, the same great host. To start it all off, I'm sitting down for a series of interviews with relatively new band on the scene, Star Forest. They released their self titled debut album to a modest reception a little while ago. Since then, nothing. Now they're back with a new lineup, new sound, and a new album. Certainly a lot of new going around. Today's episode. Welcome to Fawks Talks. [00:00:40] Rocky: I moved around a lot growing up. I remember this one place my mom, my little brother and I moved to. It was this pretty chill coastal town. I do consider myself somewhat of a gourmet. If you want, I'll let you in on what the music video is gonna be about. [00:00:58] Phineas: This is Fawks Talks with Phineas Fawks. With me today is a member of the band Star Forest, whom I feel has truly been here with me all along. Perhaps that is because, despite my best efforts, he has been popping in and out of the studio during each and every episode thus far. That's right. I'm, of course, talking about the behemoth of beats, the thankfully one and only, Rocky. Rocky, how are you today? [00:01:28] Rocky: I'm doing great, Phin. Stoked to finally be here. [00:01:31] Phineas: I told Sluuth not to call me that. It's fine. It's fine. Yes, well, I believe the word finally is doing a spot of heavy lifting, wouldn't you say? [00:01:41] Rocky: Words can lift. I'm gonna need to up my game if words. [00:01:46] Phineas: No, no, no. That's. That's not what I meant. It's a. A turn of a phrase. [00:01:51] Rocky: How do you turn a phrase? [00:01:53] Phineas: You know what? Nevermind that, my dear boy. Let's get to know you a little bit better. [00:01:58] Rocky: Yes, I've always wanted to get to know me better. Now, what do I want to know more about? I mean, I already know so much. Can one truly ever know themselves? [00:02:10] Phineas: Oh, you are such a kidder, Rocky. Now, in the intro, I said you were the quote one and only. But that isn't entirely true, now, is it? [00:02:18] Rocky: What makes you say that? [00:02:20] Phineas: Your name. [00:02:21] Rocky: What about it? [00:02:22] Phineas: Rocky. [00:02:23] Rocky: I'm Rocky. [00:02:24] Phineas: Yes, but I mean your full name. [00:02:27] Rocky: Oh, that makes way more sense. Why? My full name is Rocktopus Blueblood VII of the darkling deep blue bloods. Of course, governor. [00:02:40] Phineas: Oh, my. I didn't realize you were of noble blood. [00:02:43] Rocky: I mean, technically, I'm not a noble. But as an octopus, my blood is blue. [00:02:49] Phineas: And the darkling deep blue bloods. Certainly that means there's more of you. [00:02:54] Rocky: Well, yes. [00:02:55] Phineas: Oh, Joy. [00:02:56] Rocky: Well, technically there have been since I'm the 7th. But I'm the only one who lives there. [00:03:03] Phineas: Oh, Joy. I mean, oh, no. Have you always been alone? [00:03:09] Rocky: No, man. I've got Fawn and Sluuth and Twig and the Bale Beetles and the Bum Bum Frogs... [00:03:15] Phineas: I get what you mean. You're surrounded with friends. I would like to know more about life before the band. What was that like? [00:03:23] Rocky: Fair enough. I moved around a lot growing up. I remember this one place my Mom, my little Brother and I moved to. It was this pretty chill coastal town. [00:03:33] Phineas: Was this the kind of coastal town that just had a beach and a pier? Or the bigger ones with a boardwalk? [00:03:39] Rocky: This one totally had a boardwalk. It was pretty cool. There was a carousel and a big wooden roller coaster. Oh, and a bandstand that always had this really awesome live music. [00:03:50] Phineas: Was this where your love for music came from? [00:03:53] Rocky: Definitely part of it, for sure. That's actually where I met Mizz [00:03:55] Phineas: The wrestler?! [00:03:06] Rocky: What? No, like Mizz Star Slugzz. Mizz really is where I met all of the Slugzz. We all used to hang out in this cool hideout they had and ride bikes all over town like real rebels, without a clue. [00:04:11] Phineas: This would be the Star Slugzz that we know and love here on Star Forest island. [00:04:16] Rocky: Sure. [00:04:17] Phineas: Interesting. I didn't know that they had hailed from somewhere else. Must look into that further. Please go on. I'd love to know more about the Slugzz. [00:04:27] Rocky: Well, you see, Mizz had this younger slugzz Frizz that was like a kid brother to her. It was something that really helped us understand each other, you know? [00:04:38] Phineas: That makes sense, given you also had a younger brother, right? [00:04:42] Rocky: Though he kept running off with these other kids his age. I can't remember their names off the top of my head, but they were similar, I think. Anyway, Blizz was kind of the leader of the Slugzz back then. I'm pretty sure he wasn't the boss boss, but I'm pretty sure he was jealous of my friendship with Mizz, and that was a whole thing, but I digest… [00:05:04] Phineas: This place sounds simply lovely. A wonderful atmosphere. Friends to spend lazy summer days with. Possibly more. Wink, wink. I must ask, why would you move away? [00:05:15] Rocky: Well, it's like my grandpa always used to say. One thing about living in Santa Clara. Never could stomach all the vampires. [00:05:26] Phineas: Of course…I'm pretty sure that's a movie. [00:05:29] Rocky: They made a movie about me? [00:05:31] Phineas: What? No. I'm pretty positive that you just described the plot of a movie that was made a long time ago. [00:05:37] Rocky: Oh. It's even more impressive that they knew about me. I must be a big deal. [00:05:41] Phineas: There is no movie about you. The story you just told me is from a movie. It isn't real. [00:05:49] Rocky: Um, I'm pretty sure it is real. I was there. [00:05:52] Phineas: Are you sure? [00:05:54] Rocky: Yeah. Oh, yeah. No, you're right. That was from movie night. Man, I gotta get out. [00:06:05] Phineas: I know the feeling. Do you even have a younger brother? [00:06:10] Rocky: I have a younger cousin. Uh, we're kind of like brothers. [00:06:13] Phineas: That's a no, then. [00:06:15] Rocky: Only from a certain point of view. [00:06:17] Phineas: A certain point of view? Why don't we try an easier topic, like hobbies. You have hobbies, right? [00:06:25] Rocky: I do consider myself somewhat of a gourmet. [00:06:29] Phineas: Thank the stars. Wonderful. Let's talk food. What types are you most knowledgeable about? [00:06:36] Rocky: Fries. [00:06:37] Phineas: Fries? [00:06:37] Rocky: Fries? Yeah, you know, potatoes. There's so many kinds of fries. They're all super tasty too. You've got curly fries and boardwalk fries, Julienne fries, waffle fries, shoestring fries, potato wedges, crinkle cut fries, steak fries, poutine and tater tots are fry like. Then there's this thing called the potato tornado. That also counts because it's awesome. [00:07:07] Phineas: Enough about fries. [00:07:09] Rocky: Oh, sorry, buddy. I didn't. I didn't mean to get you all frazzled. [00:07:13] Phineas: It's fine. [00:07:15] Rocky: You know, here I am blabbering on and on about fries like, you know what I'm talking about. Why I should have been calling them chips, right? [00:07:23] Phineas: I know the difference between chips and fries. Are there any other foods you enjoy? [00:07:29] Rocky: Yeah, sushi. [00:07:31] Phineas: You what?! [00:07:32] Rocky: Sorry, did they not have sushi where you come from? [00:07:35] Phineas: I know what sushi is. Is that what happened…? No. You know what? I don't want to know. [00:07:45] Rocky: You'll never make it as a reporter if you don't want to know things. This guy. [00:07:50] Phineas: Ha ha. That was fun, now, wasn't it, dear listeners? What a jokester that rocky is. So many jokes. When we come back, I'll attempt to get a usable interview from Rocky perfectly. We'll discuss the formation of Star Forest, what happened while filming Wildewood, or anything that actually happened, for that matter. But first, our sponsor. [00:09:07] Phineas: No, the band…that's your in, right? [00:09:11] Rocky: Right. That makes sense. [00:09:13] Phineas: Star Forest, the band. Not the island, the song, nor the album. [00:09:18] Rocky: Got it? [00:09:19] Phineas: I doubt that. According to your bio, you are a founding member of the band. While you play the drums, your primary instrument is actually the tambourine. That can't be right. There isn't any tambourine in any of your music. [00:09:33] Rocky: Isn't there though? [00:09:34] Phineas: No. No, there isn't. [00:09:36] Rocky: I'm pretty sure there is. It's on every single track. It's even on me right now. [00:09:41] Phineas: Oh, trust me, I know. It's on your person at all times. I'm pretty sure it will be in my nightmares. But I have listened to the album many times and it is not there. Perhaps it is in your head. [00:09:54] Rocky: No, it's on my nub. [00:09:56] Phineas: I can't even…name one song it's on then. [00:10:01] Rocky: Um…Wildewood…Ledoy. Pretty sure that's french for duh. [00:10:07] Phineas: And I'm pretty sure that's a shaker or a hi hat, not a tambourine. But let's talk about Wildewood. [00:10:15] Rocky: Yes, it's a really good song. Like a 13 way tie for best song we've released. What? [00:10:24] Phineas: While many people know that Wildewood was the first single on your self titled debut album, they may not know that it was to have a music video as well. Would you care to elaborate on why that is? [00:10:34] Rocky: Sure thing. So when you finish recording an album, you kind of take a step back and look at the thing with your mates and think, now which one of these songs will get people in the... [00:10:47] Phineas: I know what a single is! I meant what happened to the music video? [00:10:54] Rocky: Right, right. Yeah. The thing we were making then couldn't make because… [00:11:01] Phineas: Yes. [00:11:02] Rocky: Yeah. I'm not gonna talk about that. Don't want to be a Delilah downer. [00:11:06] Phineas: Thats not a thing. [00:11:07] Rocky: Right? Its not a thing I want to be at all. Buuuut if you want ill let you in on what the music video is gonna be about. [00:11:17] Phineas: Ill take it. Please tell me the plot of the music video. [00:11:21] Rocky: There you go, champ. I was hoping youd ask. Okay, im gonna need a volunteer from the audience. [00:11:28] Phineas: This is a pre taped show. Its only you and me. [00:11:31] Rocky: Sounds like Phin has volunteered. [00:11:33] Phineas: Joy. What would you like me to do? [00:11:37] Rocky: Something I just know you'll be great at narrating. [00:11:41] Phineas: Narrating? [00:11:42] Rocky: Yeah, you know, using your talkie words to explain what's going on. [00:11:46] Phineas: I know what narration is, you oversized cephalopod! What will I be narrating? [00:11:52] Rocky: Okay, you'll be letting the people at home know what I'm doing with these. [00:11:58] Phineas: And why will I be doing this? [00:12:01] Rocky: Because they can't see them, silly. [00:12:03] Phineas: …cause it's a podcast… [00:12:05] Rocky: Exactly. Okay, I need a couple more volunteers. [00:12:10] Phineas: Wait, no! [00:12:11]Fawn: I wanna be the Star Kid. [00:12:13] Rocky: That's our Starchaser Dreamgirl for you. [00:12:16] Twig: Hey, Rock, mind if I'm the dragon? [00:12:18] Rocky: I mean, who else could play the big golden dragon but our very own big golden dragon? Am I right? [00:12:26] Twig: Shucks. Thanks, man. [00:12:28] Sluuth: Oh, oh, I know! I'll be the impending sense of existential nihilism that pervades everything. [00:12:37] Rocky: …Or you could help me with the beat. You know, if you can stay on beat. [00:12:44] Sluuth: Son, I'm always on beat! [00:12:46] Rocky: Okay, Finn, you can start when you're ready. Just be like my play by play guy. You got this. [00:12:52] Phineas: I know I've got this. Rocky has with him a rather large cardboard box. And within this box are what can only be described as art and craft supplies. Where did this box come from? The world may never know. He is now constructed puppets out of popsicle sticks, construction paper and crayons, as well as a diorama of Star Forest island. I must say, the scale is a little off. And Fawn looks a little like a rabbit. But considering how fast this came together, it's impressive. [00:13:23] Rocky: Oh, thanks, big guy. [00:13:25] Phineas: You're welcome. Is that supposed to be zooming in? Yeah, you don't need to pick the whole thing up and move it towards me. I can provide the color for the scene, for the audience. Without that. [00:13:36] Rocky: Man, you sure are something. [00:13:38] Phineas: I am, aren't I? Now, where were we? Ah, yes. Two heroes, both alike in dignity. In fair Wildewood, where we lay our scenes, shall ancient grudge break to new mutiny. What? [00:13:52] Rocky: Um, you're kind of giving away the plot in the beginning. [00:13:56] Phineas: It's classical storytelling. All right, fine. Have it your way. We open on a golden dragon with four wings and a long, serpent like body. Wait, no. A child like dragon. Still golden. Cute, if not kind of round and dopey looking. Okay, okay. What are you doing? [00:14:15] Rocky: Tryin to making a better dragon! [00:14:18] Phineas: Ready? [00:14:19] Rocky: Uh huh. [00:14:21] Phineas: Final answer? [00:14:23] Rocky: Yes, sir. [00:14:24] Phineas: A giant, ferocious looking golden dragon with enormous wings that glow with the blue energy of the starforced island itself as it awakes from its neck, deep inside the Crystal Cave. You know, I never really knew. Is it Crystal Cave or Crystal Caves? [00:14:40] Rocky: It's whatever you imagine. [00:14:42] Phineas: Well, you only made one cave, but it really should be a whole cave system. So, seemingly bored, the dragon lifts up from her nest inside the Crystal Caves. She flies out of the mountain towards a nearby lake and plunges deep below the waves, popping up alongside a pretty flower. She takes a moment to smell it as a cat eyed fly flits away. Upset and lonely, the dragon flies off into the night. Judging by the humming, we're now at the coruscant. The original band lineup is seen playing on a stage with a large tree in the center giving way to a. A small basin of water for the drums and a giant rusted toy robot to stage left. They seem happy. [00:15:21] Rocky: Yeah. [00:15:22] Phineas: Sorry. [00:15:23] Rocky: That's okay. [00:15:25] Phineas: The dragon, a bit older now, perches on a tree branch overlooking the wood. Far below, she spots a child with a spiked fin helmet, puffed vest, perhaps with the Coast guard... Shivering cold and alone below, the dragon, sensing a potentially kindred spirit, swoops down, billowing fire from her mouth towards the child. She what?! [00:15:46] Rocky: Just trust me. Keep going. [00:15:49] Phineas: And with that, lights a campfire to warm themselves by…Oooooh! Following this is a montage of the two curled by the fire, then dancing and singing, blowing flower petals into the winds and soaring high above the treetops. Together, no longer alone, these fast friends begin to have amazing journeys together forever. Oh, that's so lovely. What a wonderful story you have crafted. Oh, there's more? It seems like a full music video worth of scenes already, but okay. The montage continues with the precocious pair floating amongst the auras, then sitting fireside with the band toasting marshmallows. Then they take off into the sky when the child falls to the ground below?! Okay, okay. Trusting you. Oh, good. And the dragon dives towards him, scooping him up. At the last second, they take flight once again over a village that I assume are the Bale Beetles. But I could be wrong, since it's just a bunch of pine cones strewn haphazardly across the desk. We then move to a scene within said village of the band playing on an old fashioned wooden riser stage. As nighttime sets in high above the island, the child rides on the dragon's back, holding in his hands a bug catching correction, a stardust catching net that is catching said stardust right out from the sky. And finally, we are left with a lovely scene of enduring everlasting friendship, nay, kinship, as the dragon and child embrace as despite her terrifying outward appearance and his diminutive stature, it truly was what was on the inside that counted, and that was simply two people, once lost, now found. Well, now, that was an experience. [00:17:35] Rocky: Right? [00:17:36] Phineas: It is a shame that no one will ever see it. [00:17:39] Rocky: I don't know. I feel like everybody just did. [00:17:43] Phineas: Yes, well, thank you. How delightful. Not only did yours truly get the behind the scenes scoop on the lost music video, Wildewood, but I got to narrate it myself. Oh, how fun. On top of it all in, despite a rather…rocky start, things are starting to become an actual interview. Will that continue, dear listener? Let's find out together after a word from our sponsors. [00:18:57] Phineas: It will be coming out this week. [00:19:00] Rocky: It's coming out this week. [00:19:03] Phineas: First of all, I meant this week in relation to when the episode airs. [00:19:07] Rocky: Oh. [00:19:09] Phineas: Second, did you just ink me? [00:19:12] Rocky: Yeah. Sorry about that, big guy. It happens whenever I'm shocked or scared or fleeing or stuck in the drive through… [00:19:20] Phineas: I get the point. [00:19:21] Rocky: Here, let me help. [00:19:24] Phineas: Oh, no, no. Oh, no. [00:19:26] Rocky: Leave me alone. [00:19:27] Phineas: Oh, God. Not at the same time. Leave the fur, please. No, not the tail. [00:19:35] Rocky: There you go. [00:19:37] Phineas: Yes, well… [00:19:39] Rocky: You're welcome. [00:19:39] Phineas: Moving on. When this episode airs, the album will be coming out this week. [00:19:50] Rocky: Rrrrrright. [00:19:51] Phineas: Right? How does that make you feel? [00:19:54] Rocky: Relieved. It isn't coming out this week. Am I right? But yes. To borrow a saying from your neck of the woods, it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy down in my tum tum. [00:20:08] Phineas: That's not a saying. [00:20:09] Rocky: Pretty sure it is. [00:20:10] Phineas: Is not. [00:20:11] Rocky: Is to. [00:20:12] Phineas: Is not. [00:20:13] Rocky: Is now. [00:20:13] Phineas: …mother said there'd be days like this. [00:20:16] Rocky: I love that song. [00:20:18] Phineas: Speaking of songs, I'm told you've prepared a selection for us, but I don't have the name of it written down anywhere. I presume it's from the new album? Yes. [00:20:28] Rocky: No. [00:20:29] Phineas: You do know that's what you're meant to promote here, right? [00:20:34] Rocky: Sounds like someone has a case of the Mondays. [00:20:37] Phineas: You know what it's fine, it's fine. I'm fine. Everything is fine. What song then, did you prepare for my listeners today? [00:20:47] Rocky: Well, I brought a song that is near and dear to my heart. One that is actually based on a true story about my arrival here in the Star Forest. [00:20:57] Phineas: Really? Oh, do tell. What's it called? [00:20:58] Rocky: The Pirates of Chantey Cog. Hey yo! Yo ho ho. Buck up buccaneers, I'm ready to go. It is she and I'm back from the seas to sing, but first, me mateys, I got a few swings, I got a few things I think you should know. The lantern's lit, sea legs legit, batten down the hatches, cause I won't quit. Don't hang the jib, light you up like a spark, black canvas, cutless cut. Is something wrong? [00:21:25] Phineas: That song isn't about your arrival here. That song isn't even about you at all! [00:21:30] Rocky: I mean, I'm pretty sure I'd know I was there after all. [00:21:34] Phineas: So then you mean to tell me that you are actually lady danger? [00:21:39] Rocky: What? No. That's Fawn, silly. Check out this guy. [00:21:45] Phineas: Then you're a pirate? [00:21:47] Rocky: Fun fact. I taught the pirates how to sing shanties when they first got to the The Cog. [00:21:54] Phineas: Wait, wait, wait. How long have you been here? [00:22:00] Rocky: Not sure. Maybe ten minutes. [00:22:03] Phineas: Ten minutes? Not here in the studio, my dear boy. Here on Star Forest Island. [00:22:10] Rocky: Oh yeah, that makes a lot more sense. [00:22:13] Phineas: Indeed. [00:22:14] Rocky: Cause like, you've been here the whole time too. So why. Why would you ask me a question you know the answer to? I mean, I'm sure you've known the answers to some of the questions. [00:22:24] Phineas: So how long? [00:22:26] Rocky: Right, let's see. One, two. Skip that one. Three, four. Yep. Forever. [00:22:39] Phineas: You've been here forever? [00:22:41] Rocky: Yes sir. Since time immemorial. [00:22:46] Phineas: You. You can't have been. Certainly you were born at some point, yes? [00:22:51] Rocky: Yep. Twas a cute little larva too. [00:22:53] Phineas: Then you couldn't have been here before then. [00:22:57] Rocky: Definitely was. [00:22:58] Phineas: That's not possible. [00:23:00] Rocky: You're not possible. [00:23:01] Phineas: Yes, I most certainly am. I'm here, aren't I? [00:23:05] Rocky: Are any of us really here? [00:23:08] Phineas: What does that even mean?! [00:23:10] Rocky: Exactly? [00:23:12] Phineas: Yes, well, Rocky, of all of the guests that I have had, you are certainly one of them. [00:23:19] Rocky: Aw shucks. Thanks, big guy. I think you're pretty swell too. [00:23:24] Phineas: On the next episode, Mo’at, help me, I'll attempt to wrangle the entire band at the same time. Intentionally. As in, they're all supposed to actually be here in the studio, not just showing up whenever they fancy. Oh, and, in what is surely not a stress test by my lovely new network, it will also be a live call-in show with you, my wonderful, loyal, fantastic, smashing audience who would surely toss nothing but easy one my way…right? While I go have a little shin wag with my agent, you be sure to think up some lovely questions, dear listener. Until next episode! [00:24:08] Rocky: Wait, does this mean were done now? [00:24:11] Phineas: Yes, were done now. [00:24:13] Rocky: Like, done done? [00:24:17] Phineas: Yes, done done. Were ending this interview now. [00:24:21] Rocky: Do we have to? This was super fun, though. [00:24:24] Phineas: Im glad to hear that. But, yes, I need some time to…reflect on what we've talked about. [00:24:32] Rocky: Okay. I understand. You're really good at this. You know, we really like talking to you. [00:24:38] Phineas: We? Rocky, you're the only one here. [00:24:41] Rocky: Am I? You're here, too, aren't you? Or am I having that dream again? [00:24:46] Phineas: No, Rocky, we are both still here for some reason, which is why I'm trying to end this interview. [00:24:52] Rocky: Oh, see, that's smart. Just like everybody else said you were. [00:24:56] Phineas: Everybody? Oh, you're talking about the rest of the band. [00:25:01] Rocky: Yeah, you know, Fawn, she's like this tall, and Twig, he's like this tall and Sluuth, he's like not as tall… [00:25:11] Phineas: Yes, I know who you're talking about! But they said I was smart. [00:25:15] Rocky: Oh, yeah, we all talked about you. After all their interviews, they all said you were really good at this because you're really smart and funny and thoughtful. And even when you ask tough questions, you were nice enough to listen and say sorry if they started to feel bad. Plus, you didn't get mad whenever I joined everyone else's conversations, so. Yeah, we really like you. [00:25:38] Phineas: I mean, I got a little mad…never mind. Um. I don't know what to say. [00:25:44] Rocky: Well, you want to end our interview, right? Maybe just say goodbye? [00:25:50] Phineas: Hmm. Yes, I suppose that'll work. Goodbye, Rocky. I look forward to talking with you again soon.
